Today we extended a hand of friendship and welcomed Alan Kerins to our school. Some weeks ago we watched Laochra Gaeil on TG4 which documented Alan, not just as a prolific Gaelic hurler and footballer but more importantly as a wonderful family man and as an advocate in looking after the people of Africa, through his charitable work, fundraising, enthusiasm, energy and connections. As Alan referenced his work in Africa it became abundantly clear that this man is truly passionate in creating a better life for the less fortunate through the various projects he has initiated. Upon concluding his talk, he asked of our pupils that they consider two proposal; first of all, and in so far as possible, to go through life with a smile and also to show kindness to other, (for it is in giving that we receive.). Charlie Holland presented Alan with €500 towards his African fund and we all agreed that Alan’s visit was truly special.
